Ambassador Khadijatu Bassir

Ambassador Mrs. Khadijatu Bassir is the current Director General, that is, the Administrative and Professional Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Sierra Leone in 1981, Ambassador Khadijatu Bassir entered the Sierra Leone Civil Service as an Administrative Officer. She has served in various Ministries and Departments in different capacities – the Establishment Secretary’s Office, the Sierra Leone Parliament and the Cabinet Secretariat.

Ambassador Mrs. Khadijatu Bassir joined the Sierra Leone Foreign and Diplomatic Service in 1988. Before her current appointment, she served in various Directorates at headquarters and Sierra Leone’s Missions in Brussels, Lagos/Abuja and Dakar. In 2011 she was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Senegal with multiple accreditations to Morocco, Cape Verde and Mauritania. It is no mistake that some refer to her as a DOYEN of the Sierra Leone Foreign and Diplomatic Service.

Apart from being a shrewd Professional and Administrator, Ambassador Mrs. Khadijatu Bassir is also a distinguished academic. She holds a Post-graduate Degree in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

As a wife and mother, Ambassador Bassir has been very active in promoting the cause of women’s empowerment and children’s rights particularly, Girl Child Education.
